A month or two ago, I got an array of new PC parts, shown above.
- nVidia GTX 260 graphics card - it's huge! (I plan on playing around with CUDA sometime)
- 3 GB RAM (the graphics card has 896 MB, and I'm using Vista 32-bit, so a 4th GB wouldn't add much)
- Intel Core2 Duo @3.16 Ghz - the heatsink/fan is large compared to the CPU itself (my old Pentium 4 was 3.2 Ghz, so I couldn't downgrade too much for single-core tasks)
- 2x 240GB SATA hard drives (plus 500GB external drive)
- New mobo and power supply
This was quite a large upgrade from what I had before:
- nVidia 6800GT (AGP)
- 1 GB RAM
- Intel Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz

Good for you.
Congrats! You're lucky. nVidia GTX 260 graphics card is awesome! But i only dreaming about it. It's too expensive for me. But sometime i'll get it! And I have Core 2 Duo too. It's really fast even with my 8600GTS.
Hehe
Neat stuff, much better speed wise then my rig.
However, I don't think comparing direct clock speeds between a Pentium 4 (ugly, ugly architechture) and the Core 2 Duo (much nicer) is accurate, since after testing single core stuff, my old P4 was a lot slower despite being a similar clock speed to my Core 2 Duo - and at the speed you are running at, no doubt it's a lot lot faster. :)
Either that or you had an excellent Pentium 4 and so the change really doesn't do much to the single-core tasks - mine wasn't ever one of those top end ones, but still..hmm
